Research and Background


Professional & Academic Background

Dr. Taeho Jo develops deep learning and integrative computational methods to advance the diagnosis and biological understanding of Alzheimer's disease. His work centers on three connected directions: uncertainty-aware neural architectures for neuroimaging that produce calibrated diagnostic predictions and support selective clinical decision-making; frameworks for prioritizing genetic variants, from common variants through DuAL-Net to case-enriched rare variants characterized with AlphaGenome; and the integration of imaging, genetic, and clinical data toward personalized diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and related disorders. His methods are validated in independent multi-ancestry cohorts including ADSP and ADNI, and selected tools are released as interactive web resources for the community.

Dr. Jo received his Ph.D. in Computational Biology from Tokyo Medical and Dental University (now Institute of Science Tokyo) in 2010 and held postdoctoral and research scientist positions at RIKEN and the University of Michigan before joining the Indiana University School of Medicine in 2018, where he holds appointments in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences, the Indiana Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, and the Indiana University Center for Neuroimaging. Beyond research, he is actively engaged in writing and education, authoring technical books and teaching to broaden access to AI and computational science.
